What's New around Trinity
             Catholic Schools Week 2010

Monday began with the Opening Prayer Service and 8th Grade Ring Ceremony

--------

Teacher Appreciation Breakfast

The  wonderful HSA provided a delicious breakfast for the Priests, staff and faculty.   In addition, they supplied classroom coverage so teachers could linger a bit longer.  It was thoroughly enjoyed and very much appreciated!

------

 Pajama Day

Trinity Academy's Junior High students danced an afternoon away during Catholic School's Week.
Students enjoyed the music and the company of their fellow classmates.  The 5th grade students were  invited to the dance and were warmly welcomed by the upper classmen.

----------

8th Grade and Faculty Volleyball Game

The annual 8th grade/Faculty volleyball game was held on Wednesday.  It was attended by a very vocal crowd of parents and students.  Great fun was had by all.

Fiesta de Formas

The kindergarten class participated in a Fiesta de Formas (shape party) in Spanish class.  We had a great time learning about our shapes through food, song and dance.

2nd Grade Art

The Trinity Academy Book Fair has inspired students to read a book and travel the world!  Stop by the library to see the Second Graders reading a book as they travel in their hot air balloons.  In Art Class, the students created paper mache balloons and referenced photos of real hot air balloons to paint the designs on the outside.  The students then drew a full body self-portrait of themselves, plus a miniature copy of their favorite book.  Mrs. Crump attached a basket to each balloon and placed the student’s self-portrait, reading the miniature book, inside the basket. Bon voyage!

Art Contest Winner

Congratulations to John Rogacki for placing in the Kid's Guide Cover Art Contest.  John's picture was selected for inclusion in the coupon section of the Winter/Spring 2010 book.  John used pastels to draw a two sided tree, one side for spring and the other side for winter. Picture above: Mrs. Crump presented John with his Artistic Achievement Award from the Kid's Guide Publisher.

The Art of the “Booktalk”

Fifth graders at Trinity Academy designed “placemats” with talking point items to facilitate their culminating activity in their novel studies program.   The students read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen and discussed the novel’s theme, character traits, and  story events that had an impact on the student as a reader of this novel about a young boy’s courage and survival when facing the unexpected.

Students discussed lessons to be learned in their own life from this story and talked about the interesting usage of  new (or previously known) vocabulary words and their meaning and impact to the story line.

Students spoke about their favorite part of the novel and told why it had meaning for them.  Students will culminate their novel study by an oral presentation of their version of either:  a different ending for the novel, Hatchet, or their idea for a story sequel to this exciting novel.

6th Grade Science

What a creative group 6th graders were this month in the science lab.  Each student began their creation modeling either a plant or animal cell.  Various household items were used to represent different cell parts (especially lots of leftover Halloween candy).  This project completed their study of Cells.. The Units of Life.  It was a fun hands-on learning experience.

                                             -------

The 6th, 7th and 8th grades are using a website we call Trinitypedia for project resources and will be publishing some of their work there.  Parents who would like to access the site may contact Mrs. Fiore for instructions and the password.
